Zavaire is a jewelry brand for people drawn to distinctive design: bold forms, strong color, and pieces with enough character to change the way an outfit feels.

Zavaire jewelry

The name

Zavaire

zewar noun · Hindi, Urdu

jewelry; adornment.

Zavaire is an invented name. It takes its sound from zewar, the word for jewelry and adornment in Hindi and Urdu, and ends on a suggestion of fair. A name for things made to be looked at.

How we choose

Not a marketplace. A point of view.

Every piece here was chosen for a reason, and three words decide it. A piece doesn’t need all three in equal measure. It always needs character.

Color

01

Color

Used deliberately: saturated, tonal or unexpected, never just decoration. A shot of cobalt against warm brass. A run of crimson that shifts from bead to bead.

Form

02

Form

Shape, scale and proportion. The line a collar draws across the collarbone, the weight a cuff gives the wrist. Most of a piece’s character lives here.

Character

03

Character

The detail you remember: an unusual material, a hand-worked surface, an arrangement you haven’t seen before. If nothing about it is memorable, it doesn’t make the cut.

We look at a piece the way you will: what do you notice first?

What gives it presence, how it sits against a plain neckline or a bare wrist. Craft and origin matter to us, but they come second. They are what make a piece hold up to a closer look, not the reason to want it.

Since 2008

Found around the world.

India · The Philippines · Türkiye · Kenya · Guatemala · Thailand · Laos · Nepal · Indonesia · Ecuador · Colombia

We have been sourcing jewelry from makers around the world since 2008: hand-forged brass from India, carved wood and horn from the Philippines, cast metal from Türkiye, beadwork from Kenya and Guatemala, high-purity silver from Thailand and Laos. We work with suppliers who hold to high standards of quality and fair working practices.

Techniques travel, and many of our pieces carry more than one tradition: silverwork from one place shaped into a form from another, beadwork that borrows its palette from somewhere else entirely. We like what happens when influences meet, and we choose pieces for the result.

Handmade jewelry, up close

The making

Made by hand, mostly.

Many of our pieces are made by hand, with traditional techniques and natural materials: brass forged and hammered, wood and horn carved and strung, recycled cloth wrapped around beads, silver stamped and coiled.

That shows, and it should. Expect small variations in color, texture, finish and shape from one piece to the next. These are marks of the process, not flaws. No two pieces are exactly alike.

Is everything handmade? No. A small number of pieces are cast or finished with the help of machinery, which lets us offer designs that would otherwise be hard to find. Each product page lists the material, and where we know it, the technique.

“Where did you get that?”

Zavaire is for someone with a clear sense of her own style. She might wear a white shirt, dark trousers and one extraordinary necklace, and she would rather hear that question than “That looks expensive.”
