About Necklaces

A necklace sits closer to the face than anything else you wear, so we choose them for what they do there: the line they draw across the collarbone, the color they bring up, the weight they give a plain neckline. Some are wide collars that hold their shape. Others run long and move as you walk.

The range is deliberately wide. Carved wood and horn strands from the Philippines, kantha-wrapped beads and hand-forged brass from India, cast metal forms from Türkiye, multi-strand beadwork from Nepal.

How to wear a bold necklace

The simplest rule: give it room. A wide collar wants a plain neckline, a crew neck or a boat neck, and no other jewelry above the waist. A long strand does the opposite job, drawing a vertical line down a dress or over a turtleneck, and can be doubled when you want the volume higher. If a necklace carries several colors, pick up one of them somewhere else in the outfit and let the rest be the surprise.

Lengths run from a 14 in choker to strands that reach 100 in when worn long. Each listing gives the exact length and closure.

Are these necklaces heavy?

Most are not. The wood-and-horn strands from the Philippines and the kantha textile pieces are the lightest for their size; the cast pewter pendants are the heaviest. Weight is noted on listings where it matters, and every piece is described honestly.

What are Zavaire necklaces made of?

Carved wood and horn, recycled kantha cotton, hand-forged brass, cast pewter-based alloys that are lead- and nickel-free, sterling and hill tribe silver, glass seed beads and natural stones. Each product page lists the material, length and country of origin.

Where are they made?

Mostly by makers in India and the Philippines, with cast pieces from Türkiye, beadwork from Nepal and a few pieces made in the USA. Every piece ships from our warehouse in the United States.
