In the Philippines, wood and buffalo horn are the working materials of large-scale beadwork — locally abundant, durable, and easy to cut, sand and dye into the uniform disc shapes this piece relies on.

The multi-strand bib is the format that makes the most of them. Dozens of cords are strung and layered so the whole thing reads as one dense, rounded mass rather than a single strand, and color-blocking the sections — solid black, solid red, solid cream — turns a repeating disc into a graphic composition.
