A wide brass disc anchors the front, scalloped-edged and hammered, catching light against a collar of chalk-white beads and stacked green discs. The scale runs small at the neck and builds to full at the medallion.

  • Material: Brass, wood, glass, bone
  • Color: Green, white, brass
  • Length: 30 in
  • Diameter: 2.5 in medallion
  • Closure: Antiqued bronze toggle
  • Origin: USA

The strand sits long, dropping the medallion mid-chest so the composition reads as one sculptural object against a plain top. Two frosted glass beads soften the transition between white and brass, and the toggle finishes on antiqued bronze.

Details
  • Hand-cast brass medallion with hammered-look finish
  • Mixed wood, glass and bone beading in green and white
  • Graduated bead sizing from collar to centerpiece
  • Antiqued bronze toggle closure

The medallion is cast by hand and the beads are natural materials, so patina, grain and bead shape shift slightly from piece to piece.

The Story

The medallion is cast in brass using the lost-wax method — a wax form is coated in a clay mold, heated until the wax drains away, then replaced with molten brass. The mold is broken to release the disc, which is why the surface reads slightly uneven and the finish carries the marks of hand-work.

The beads come from separate traditions: glass and bone associated with artisans in Kenya, wood from craftspeople in the Philippines. They were chosen for a shared green-and-white palette and organic weight — nothing polished, nothing uniform.

The strand is assembled in the USA, where the beads are sorted and balanced by size and tone, strung against the medallion and closed with an antiqued bronze toggle.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: West African lost-wax brass casting

Wipe the brass medallion with a soft dry cloth to maintain its finish. Keep the wood, bone and glass beads away from water, lotion and perfume.

Questions

How long is the necklace?

The strand measures approximately 30 in, and the brass medallion is about 2.5 in across.

What is the medallion made from and how is it made?

The medallion is solid brass, cast using the lost-wax method — a wax model is encased in a mold, melted out, and replaced with molten brass, which leaves the rustic, hand-worked surface.

Are the beads natural materials?

Yes. The necklace combines wood, bone and glass beads, so you will see natural variation in grain, tone and shape from piece to piece.

How does the necklace close?

It closes with an antiqued bronze toggle clasp.

How should I care for it?

Wipe the brass medallion occasionally with a soft dry cloth, and keep the beads away from water, lotion and perfume.
