A hammered brass medallion anchors the strand, flanked by stacks of slate-teal glass discs and warm mauve-brown wood beads that build weight and color toward the center.

  • Material: Brass, recycled glass, wood, coconut
  • Color: Teal, brown, brass
  • Length: 23.5 in
  • Closure: Antiqued bronze hammered toggle
  • Origin: USA
  • Pendant: 2.5 x 3 in

The medallion's face carries a raised horizontal bar and a dimpled, worked surface that catches light unevenly. At 23.5 inches the pendant sits high on the sternum, meant to be a single focal point over a plain neckline rather than layered.

Details
  • Hand-hammered brass medallion centerpiece
  • Antiqued bronze hammered toggle closure
  • Mixed wood and coconut beading
  • Chunky glass disc beads in teal and brown tones

The medallion is hand-hammered and the beads are natural materials and hand-molded glass, so slight differences in finish, shape and hue are normal across pieces.

The Story

The slate-teal disc beads draw on a Ghanaian tradition of working with recycled and powdered glass — melted down and molded into beads rather than cut from raw stone. The small bubbles, soft irregularities and shifts of color are part of that process.

The wood and coconut beads are shaped, sanded and polished in Kenya from materials abundant in the region. Their matte, warm tone plays against the cooler glass and gives the strand its earthy contrast.

The brass medallion is hammered by hand in a US workshop, where the beads from Ghana and Kenya are strung with brass spacers and the toggle is oxidized to an antiqued bronze before final assembly. Because each stage relies on hand tools, no two medallions or bead runs come out identical.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Recycled glass beadmaking (Ghana); coconut and wood beadwork (Kenya)

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. Keep the beads and brass away from perfume, lotion and water to preserve the color and patina.

Questions

What is the necklace made of?

A hammered brass medallion, brass spacer beads, an antiqued bronze toggle closure, and a mix of recycled glass beads from Ghana with wood and coconut beads from Kenya.

How long is the necklace and how big is the medallion?

The necklace measures 23.5 inches, and the brass medallion pendant is approximately 2.5 x 3 inches.

Is the necklace adjustable?

It closes with a fixed-length antiqued bronze toggle clasp, so the 23.5-inch length is set.

Will the color and finish match the photos exactly?

Close, not identical. The beads are hand-molded glass and natural materials, and the medallion is hand-hammered, so finish and hue vary slightly piece to piece.

How do I care for it?

Wipe it down with a soft, dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from water, perfume and lotion, which can dull the glass and the brass patina over time.
