Five graduated strands of fabric-wrapped beads fall in layers across the neckline, each bead carrying a different print — florals, stripes and solids in teal, coral, mustard, plum and cream. Tiny gold-tone spacers catch between them like punctuation.

  • Material: Reclaimed wood, recycled cotton sari textile, gold-tone metal spacers and chain
  • Color: Multicolor
  • Length: 17.5 in shortest strand
  • Closure: Gold-tone chain
  • Origin: India
  • Extender: 3 in

The strands graduate longer as they drop, so the composition reads as color first, pattern second. Volume enough to carry a plain top on its own, without the weight of solid beads. Every angle rearranges the palette.

Every bead is wrapped by hand from a different scrap of sari cloth, so color placement and pattern shift from piece to piece.

The Story

The beads start as scraps of furniture wood, hand-carved into small rounds. Each round is then wrapped tightly in a piece of recycled sari cloth — the cotton and silk that makes up everyday and ceremonial dress across India — so the wood provides the shape and the fabric provides the color.

Because every wrap comes from a different scrap, no two beads carry the same print. Sorted by color and threaded onto five graduated strands with gold-tone spacers between, the finished piece multiplies the fabric's patterns into a single composition.

The work is done by women artisans in India under fair-trade conditions, part of a broader shift toward turning textile offcuts into wearable goods rather than discarding them.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Recycled sari textile beadwork

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and store flat or hanging away from moisture and direct sunlight. The wood and fabric-wrapped beads are not waterproof.
