Three strands of round ivory beads cascade in loose, graduated layers, with small spacer beads knotted between the larger rounds. The white cord and warm cream tones keep the whole composition soft and quiet.

  • Material: Natural wood
  • Color: White
  • Length: Adjustable, 29–39 in
  • Origin: Philippines
  • Bead diameter: 8–20 mm
  • Construction: Multi-strand, knotted cord

The knotted cord lets each strand fall at its own depth, so the beads settle across the collarbone in overlapping arcs rather than a single row. Slide the finish to wear it short at the neckline or long and layered. Lightweight enough to almost disappear on the body.

Details
  • Multi-strand layered silhouette
  • Graduated bead sizes
  • Adjustable length
  • Lightweight wood construction

Each bead is cut and finished from natural wood, so slight differences in grain, tone and shape from one piece to the next are part of the material.

The Story

Wood beadwork runs through the Philippines' jewelry trade — local hardwoods cut, sanded, and either dyed or left in their natural tone before being strung. This piece keeps the material undyed and unlacquered, so the wood's own color variation carries the surface rather than a uniform finish covering it.

The multi-strand construction is a practical shape as much as a decorative one. Cords of different lengths are knotted together at the ends so the strands fall at different depths, giving a layered look from a single piece rather than a stack.

Beads are cut and drilled by hand, then sorted by size and worked onto the cords with a knot after each round to hold the spacing. Evening the tension across three or four cords of different lengths is the step that takes a practiced hand.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-strung wood beadwork

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Keep away from water, lotion and perfume, which can dull the natural wood finish.

Questions

How long is it?

Adjustable from about 29 to 39 inches, so you can wear it shorter at the neckline or long and layered.

Is it heavy to wear?

No. Wood is naturally lightweight, so even with multiple strands and larger beads the necklace stays comfortable through the day.

Will the beads all look exactly alike?

Not exactly. Because the beads are cut from natural wood, you'll see small variations in grain and tone from bead to bead.

How do I care for it?

Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth after wear and keep it away from water, lotion and perfume, which can dull the wood's finish over time.

Where is it made?

Handmade in the Philippines, where wood beadwork is part of the local jewelry-making trade.
