The Story

Raw-cut stones are left rough rather than faceted, so each one keeps the outline and surface it had when it came out of the ground. Setting them takes more work, not less: every bezel has to be shaped by hand around a stone that matches no other.

Pairing raw stones with gold-plated brass is common in Indian workshops — gilded base metal carries the warmth of gold at a lower price, without pretending to be solid.
