Two shield-shaped panels curl toward each other across the top of the finger, their surfaces packed edge to edge with scrolling wirework and tiny raised beads. The pattern reads dark against silver, giving a small ring real graphic weight.

  • Material: Sterling silver, stamped 925
  • Color: Silver with darkened recesses
  • Size: 7, 8, 9 (slightly adjustable)
  • Finish: Oxidized recesses, polished raised work
  • Origin: Indonesia
  • Design: Open wraparound, two overlapping panels

The open back keeps the ring light on the hand even as the paneled top reads as a full, substantial piece. Worn alone it becomes the focal point of the hand; flanked by slim plain bands, the scrollwork sharpens further against the negative space.

  • Applied bead granulation
  • Twisted-wire rope border
  • Oxidized antique finish

Each ring is hand-formed and oxidized by hand, so the depth of shading and the exact placement of the wirework will vary slightly from piece to piece.

The Story

The surface is built from two techniques central to Balinese silversmithing. Fine silver wire is bent into scrolling, vine-like curls and soldered down as filigree. Tiny silver granules are then fused on in clusters, filling the pattern with texture and shadow.

The oxidized finish is applied deliberately, darkening the recesses so the raised wire and beadwork catch the light while the background reads black. That contrast is what turns a flat pattern into something with visible depth.

The wraparound silhouette — two decorated panels curving toward each other without fully meeting — is a common form in Balinese ring-making. It reads as a substantial piece of jewelry while staying open and light on the finger.

Store in a dry pouch away from humidity. Polish occasionally with a silver cloth to keep the oxidized detailing crisp.

Questions

Is this ring solid sterling silver?

Yes. It is sterling silver, stamped 925 on the interior of the band.

How do I find my size if I'm between 7, 8, and 9?

The open back gives the ring a small amount of adjustability. If you're between sizes, size down and gently widen it to fit.

Will the dark detailing wear off over time?

The oxidized finish sits in the recesses and holds up well to normal wear. It may soften over years of handling and can be re-darkened by a jeweler if desired.

Is the ring made by hand?

Yes. It is handmade in Indonesia using traditional filigree and granulation techniques rather than mass casting.

How should I clean it without damaging the filigree?

Use a soft silver polishing cloth on the raised areas only. Avoid abrasive cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners, which can wear down the fine wirework.
