Three strands of fabric-wrapped beads layer across the neckline in shifting blues — turquoise, teal, indigo, sky. Round beads and small barrels graduate toward the center, each wrapped in a different scrap of patterned cloth.

  • Material: Wood beads wrapped in recycled Kantha textile
  • Color: Tonal blue — indigo, teal, sky
  • Length: 18 in with 3 in extender
  • Closure: Lobster clasp
  • Origin: India
  • Metal: Brass, copper

The mixed shapes catch light differently across the three strands, so the composition shifts as you move. Textile keeps the volume soft against the collarbone — presence without the weight of a solid bead necklace. The extender lets it sit higher or looser.

The Story

Kantha is a textile tradition from West Bengal and neighboring Bangladesh, best known for running-stitch quilts where worn saris and dhotis are layered and stitched into new cloth rather than thrown away. The same instinct to reuse the fabric carries through here — leftover scraps are cut into strips and wound around wood beads, so the original prints survive in miniature on every bead.

Because the source cloth comes from many different saris, no two beads carry the same pattern or shade, even within a single strand of blue. The irregularity is the visible record of where each scrap started before it became part of the necklace.

The three-strand, graduated construction lets the tonal blues layer and catch light differently depending on strand length and bead size.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Kantha textile beadwork

Wipe with a dry cloth and store flat or hanging so the fabric-wrapped beads keep their shape. Keep away from water, perfume and prolonged direct sun.

Questions

Is this necklace handmade?

Yes. Each bead is individually wrapped in recycled Kantha fabric by hand, then strung into the three-strand design in India.

How long is the necklace and can I adjust the length?

It measures 18 in with a 3 in extender chain, so you can wear it slightly looser or shorter depending on the clasp position.

Can the necklace get wet?

Best kept dry. The beads are fabric-wrapped, so water or heavy moisture can affect the cloth over time. Remove it before showering, swimming or exercising.

What is the necklace made from?

Wood beads wrapped in recycled Kantha textile scraps, strung on three strands with brass and copper findings.
