The Story

The coiled serpent is one of the most persistent motifs in Egyptian jewelry. The Uraeus, an upright cobra, sat on the brow of the pharaoh's headdress; Meretseger, a cobra goddess, was said to watch over the tombs and workers of the Valley of the Kings.

This ring is a modern reproduction that borrows that visual language rather than copying a specific artifact. The shape — a snake coiled around the finger, head meeting tail at the front — is the form the imagery is still recognized by.

It is cast in pewter, an alloy that takes fine detail. The casting seams are cleaned by hand, the scale texture is sharpened, and the piece is plated in a gold tone before the open band is shaped to adjust.
