The Story

The zigzag draws on a Kenyan beadwork tradition where contrasting bands of dark and light beads create movement that reads clearly from a distance — a practical concern when beaded pieces are worn as part of daily dress.

Each cuff starts with a strip of soft leather. Rows of tiny Czech glass seed beads are stitched on by hand, one at a time, to build up the pattern bead by bead. Slow, close work that depends on a steady hand and even spacing.

Made in partnership with an organization that works with pastoral Kenyan women, giving beaders a way to earn income from the craft while continuing their way of life.
