The Story

The motif is drawn from continuous-line portraiture — a graphic style built from a single unbroken stroke that abstracts and overlaps facial features into one composition. Rendered in black on a white resin oval, the layered profiles give the earrings a sketchbook quality rather than a literal portrait.

Each bead starts as a shaped resin oval, sanded smooth before an artisan paints the face-line design freehand with fine brushwork. Once cured, the surface is sealed to protect the linework, then a wood bead is knotted on cord above it and the drop is finished with a silver-plated hook.

The work is done at small tables in the Philippines, where resin and beadwork are a well-established small-batch craft. The smooth oval gives the painter room to let the lines flow off the edge — part of what makes each pair read as hand-drawn rather than printed.
