Cascading strands of black and white seed beads fall across the neckline — dense zigzag banding at the collar, breaking into a rhythm of scattered dashes as the strands lengthen.

  • Material: Glass seed beads
  • Color: Black and white
  • Length: Adjustable, up to 42 in
  • Origin: Guatemala

The strands graduate in length, so the geometry reads as a full patterned field across the chest. Light in the hand for the visual weight it carries — worn over a plain turtleneck or crewneck, the black-and-white pattern does all the work.

The Story

Made in Guatemala, where beadwork sits alongside the older backstrap-loom weaving of the Maya highlands. Diamonds, zigzags and stepped lines are foundational motifs in that weaving vocabulary — here, the same geometric language is translated into seed beads rather than woven thread.

Working in monochrome rather than the vivid multicolor typical of the highland textiles lets the geometry itself carry the piece. The tight diamond banding at the collar and the rhythmic stacking through the lower strands follow the logic of the loom: repetition, symmetry, contrast.

Each strand is strung one bead at a time, following a counted pattern to keep the diamonds and stripes aligned across every layer. A single necklace can take hours to finish.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-strung glass seed beads, geometric patterning drawn from Guatemalan highland textile motifs

Keep away from water, perfume and harsh products. Store flat or gently coiled to protect the beads and thread.

Questions

How long is it?

It adjusts up to 42 in, so it can be worn long or shortened for a higher, more collared look.

What is it made of?

Small glass seed beads, hand-strung in black and white across multiple layered strands.

Is it heavy to wear?

No. Seed beads keep the necklace light despite the multi-strand volume.

Will mine look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but since each strand is strung by hand, small differences in bead placement or pattern spacing may occur from piece to piece.

How should I care for it?

Keep it away from water and harsh products, and store it flat or loosely coiled to keep the strands from tangling.
