The Story

Kantha is a running-stitch textile tradition from West Bengal, developed as a way to give worn saris and dhotis a second life — layering old cotton into something durable rather than letting it go to waste. That same instinct toward reuse is carried into the jewelry.

Strips of recycled sari fabric are wound tightly around wood bead cores by hand, so no two beads carry quite the same slice of pattern or color. The gemstone beads — agate, and sometimes aventurine, sodalite and green onyx — are picked for the greens and blues that echo the strand's palette.

The necklace is assembled by women artisans working within Fair Trade cooperatives in India, where the consistency of each wrapped bead comes from practice rather than machinery.
