A dark polished disc sits at the sternum, hung from the front of a slim open collar. One full circle against a thin rigid curve — the whole necklace holds on the contrast between the two shapes.

  • Material: Brass and natural horn
  • Length: Collar 15 in circumference
  • Drop: Pendant 4.25 in
  • Closure: Open collar, no clasp
  • Origin: Kenya

The collar sits close to the neck without a clasp, so the disc lands squarely at the base of a V-neck. Against bare skin the polished horn picks up light in soft bands of graphite and near-black across its face.

Details
  • Open collar construction
  • Hand-hammered brass
  • Large circular horn pendant
  • Natural grain and tone variation
  • Hand-finished surface

The pendant is cut from natural horn and the collar is hand-hammered, so horn color, grain and surface finish shift from one piece to the next.

The Story

The horn disc is cut from a single piece, then sanded and polished by hand through successive grits until the surface reads smooth and the natural banding shows through. This is a Kenyan approach to the material — clean geometric forms, disc, arc, cuff — that lets the horn's own grain and tonal shifts carry the design rather than added ornament.

The brass collar is worked separately. Cut to length and hammered into its curved open form, the metal is hardened in stages so the band holds its shape and springs open just enough to slip over the head without a clasp.

The two pieces meet at the end. The finished disc is fitted to the front of the collar, and the necklace comes together as two hand-worked elements joined into one silhouette.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-hammered brass collar with cut and polished natural horn

Keep the necklace dry and store it in a cool, dry place. Wipe with a soft cloth as needed rather than using water or cleaning chemicals.

Questions

Will the open collar fit different neck sizes?

The brass collar is a hand-formed open band with slight flex, so it slips on without a clasp and rests at the collarbone.

Does every horn pendant look the same?

No. Each disc is cut and polished from natural horn, so color, grain and tone shift from one piece to the next.

How do I care for the brass and horn?

Keep the necklace dry and store it in a cool, dry place. Wipe it with a soft cloth as needed rather than using water or cleaning chemicals.

Will the brass tarnish over time?

Brass develops a warmer patina with wear and air exposure. Wiping it down after wear and keeping it dry slows that change.

Is it heavy to wear?

The pendant has real presence, but the open collar rests evenly at the base of the neck rather than pulling from a single point.
