The Story

The small wrapped beads come from a practice common in India: worn cotton saris are saved, sorted by color and wound tightly around a wood core. No two beads show quite the same fleck of pattern or fade.

That reworking of cloth has deep roots in eastern India, most visibly in kantha — a running-stitch quilting tradition from West Bengal in which layers of old textile are stitched into blankets and wraps. This piece doesn't use kantha embroidery itself; it draws on the same underlying practice of treating worn cotton as material worth transforming.

The heart-shaped brass links are a simpler, more architectural form — a clean frame that carries the more irregular texture of the fabric beads and the stone cluster below.
