XC-E03

Two matte black discs, radiating outward from a tight center, with a hammered gold square set slightly off-axis at the front. The spiral cut into the metal reads instantly against the fine, dark weave.

  • Material: Iraca palm fiber, 24kt gold-plated bronze
  • Color: Black and gold
  • Size: 2.5 x 2 in
  • Closure: Post
  • Origin: Colombia

The scale is large, the weight is not — the palm fiber body carries the disc without pulling on the ear. A twisted gold-tone post keeps the whole piece sitting forward, so the spiral catches light while the weave stays quietly graphic against the skin.

Details
  • Hand-woven radiating disc pattern
  • Hammered spiral emblem charm
  • Lightweight palm fiber body
  • Twisted gold-tone post
  • Post-and-drop style

Each disc is hand-woven from natural palm fiber and the metal is hand-hammered, so slight variations in weave density and finish are part of the piece.

The Story

Iraca palm has long been worked by Colombian weavers into flat, tightly coiled discs and brims — the same fiber and technique behind the country's woven hats and baskets. Here that radiating weave is scaled down and turned on its side, so a fiber that traditionally covered a head now frames a face.

The geometric spiral cut into the gold-plated charm echoes a motif found across the region's metalwork: a single continuous line coiling in on itself, simple to read at a glance but requiring a steady hand to cut and hammer cleanly. Paired with the woven disc, it sets a warm, hand-finished metal accent against the matte black of the palm.

Made in Colombia, the earrings bring together two distinct crafts — palm weaving and metalsmithing — each contributing a different texture and skill to the finished piece.

Questions

What is iraca palm?

Iraca is a palm fiber traditionally used in Colombia for weaving hats and baskets. For these earrings, the fiber is dried, dyed black, and hand-coiled into a flat, radiating disc.

Are these earrings heavy?

No. The woven palm fiber body is naturally lightweight, so despite the 2.5 x 2 in scale they wear comfortably for extended periods.

Will the gold plating wear off?

With normal care — avoiding water, perfume and lotion — the 24kt gold plating over bronze holds its finish well. Store the earrings flat and dry between wears.

Are these post earrings?

Yes. They hang from a twisted gold-tone post, so they sit secure and easy to wear.

Will my pair look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but not identical. Because the disc is hand-woven and the charm is hand-hammered, small variations in weave and metal texture are normal.
