Two strands sit close at the collarbone — smooth navy and teal spheres threaded next to tightly wrapped beads striped in the same palette. Color reads first, then the shift between polished and woven surfaces.

  • Material: Iraca palm fiber, acai seed beads, faux leather cord
  • Color: Navy, teal, turquoise
  • Length: Adjustable, up to 40 in
  • Closure: Adjustable faux leather cord ties
  • Origin: Colombia
  • Bead diameter: 0.25–1.5 in

Bead sizes shift from small to substantial along each strand, giving the piece movement rather than uniform weight. The adjustable ties let it sit high on the throat or drop lower over a plain neckline. Rhythm at a distance, texture up close.

The Story

Iraca palm fiber is worked by hand in Colombia into hats, baskets and everyday goods — fine, pliable and durable once dried and dyed. Here artisans use that same wrapping technique at a smaller scale, winding narrow strands tightly around bead cores to build the striped, textured beads on this necklace.

The smooth beads between them are acai seeds, cleaned and polished from the fruit of the acai palm. Using the seed rather than discarding it turns an agricultural byproduct into a durable material for beadwork — a practice with roots across Colombia's palm-growing regions.

Layering the two as a double strand puts natural-fiber weaving and seed beadwork into one piece, made by women artisans working under fair trade conditions.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-woven iraca palm fiber beadwork

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Store flat, away from moisture, perfume and direct sunlight — the natural fiber and cord respond to all three.

Questions

What is this necklace made from?

Iraca palm fiber wrapped around bead cores, alongside polished acai seed beads, strung on adjustable faux leather cord.

How long is the necklace, and is it adjustable?

A double-strand design that adjusts to a maximum overall length of 40 in. Individual beads range from about 0.25 to 1.5 in in diameter.

Will my necklace look exactly like the one in the photo?

Close, but not identical. Because each bead is hand-woven and hand-strung, striping and placement shift slightly from piece to piece.

How should I care for it?

Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it away from moisture and perfume, and store it flat to protect the natural fiber.

Who makes this necklace?

Women artisans in Colombia, working under fair trade practices.
