Each bead is individually wrapped in a scrap of repurposed sari fabric, so the colors, prints and placement on your necklace will vary slightly from the one pictured.

The necklace is built on a simple idea: nothing is wasted. Worn saris, often passed through a household before being set aside, are cut into strips and wrapped around wooden bead cores rather than discarded, so a fragment of a decades-old textile ends up around the neck.

Because the fabric comes from real, previously worn saris, no two beads match. One might carry a paisley border, another a floral field, another a flat block of color — the variety is a direct result of the source, not a styling choice.

Assembly is slow. Each strip is wrapped and secured by hand around one bead at a time, then strung with small brass cone caps and jump rings onto graduated lengths of chain so the beads swing freely from each tier.

Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth and store flat or hanging to keep the chains from tangling. Keep away from water and perfume, which can fade the fabric-wrapped beads.
