The Story

The interlocking squares reference Bauhaus — the early 20th-century movement that stripped ornament down to essential geometric shapes and let form and proportion carry the visual weight. Two squares of different scale, set at an offset angle, turn a simple form into a study of balance and negative space.

The piece is worked in Türkiye, drawing on a metalworking tradition of precise soldering, wire shaping, and enamel inlay. Building the doubled square frames, joining them so they interlock rather than sit flush, and setting the enamel flush inside a recessed channel all call on close hand control.

The black enamel is the one strong contrast — a solid line tracing the border of the lower square against the bare silver of the upper one. It's a graphic choice rather than a symbolic one, used to sharpen the geometry.
