The Story

Hand-forged copper plate work is a live tradition among Indian metalsmiths: sheet metal is cut, hammered and shaped by hand rather than cast from a mold. The freeform outlines here are a direct result — no two plates share the same contour, and the piece is designed around that fact.

The oxidized patina is deliberate. Rather than polishing the copper to a uniform shine, the surface is treated to draw warmth and depth out of the metal, which is what lets the cool turquoise-color cabochons read so cleanly against it.

Each plate is cut freehand into a leaf-like shape, hand-hammered for texture, then set with a polymer clay cabochon in a beaded bezel. Holes are punched by hand and the plates are linked with jump rings into cascading rows, then joined to a copper chain and lobster clasp.
