The Story

The bracelets come out of a Guatemalan tradition of hand-knotting waxed thread around small beads to build dense, patterned bands, rather than stringing beads on a single strand. The result is a textile-like surface of tightly packed rows that holds its shape and color far longer than simple stringing.

Each band is built row by row: an artisan wraps and knots waxed cord tightly around a line of beads, repeating the motion down the length of the bracelet until the beadwork forms a solid, woven strip. The pull cords and tassel are finished by hand at the ends.
