A run of hammered gold discs meets a cluster of painted ones — teal, olive, plum, mustard — arranged asymmetrically along an open-link chain. The composition builds toward a single large teal disc that anchors the whole piece.

  • Material: Lead-free, nickel-free brass, hand-patinaed over antique gold-tone base
  • Color: Gold, teal, olive, plum, mustard
  • Length: Adjustable up to 31 in
  • Closure: Bar-and-loop toggle
  • Finish: Hand-applied multicolor patina over antique gold-tone base
  • Origin: India
  • Disc size: 0.75 in to 1.75 in

The graduated disc sizes and off-center placement give it real presence at the neckline without weight. Worn over a plain crewneck or linen, the patina reads clearly against the skin; the toggle sits at the front and becomes part of the composition.

Each disc is individually forged and hand-patinaed, so color placement, hammer texture and minor surface scuffing vary from piece to piece.

The Story

The disc is a workhorse form in northern Indian brasswork — a plain circular blank that lets a hammer do the talking. Struck on a stake, each one picks up a faceted, light-catching surface and work-hardens as it goes.

The color on several of the discs is deliberate, not aged. Metalsmiths draw out purple, green, blue and yellow by controlled heat or a patina solution, watched and timed by eye, so the spread is different disc to disc.

The chain is built ring by ring the same way, each link closed by hand. Pairing plain hammered links with the patinaed discs is how this workshop tradition sets a quieter element against a bolder one inside a single piece.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-forged brass disc-and-link work

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear and store flat, away from moisture, to preserve the patina.

Questions

How long is the necklace, and is it adjustable?

It adjusts up to 31 in via a bar-and-loop toggle, so you can wear it at different lengths.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. The brass is lead-free and nickel-free.

Will the patina wear off?

The color is set into the brass through heat or chemical treatment, but like any hand-applied finish it can soften with heavy handling. Following the care steps helps it stay vivid.

How should I clean and store it?

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing and store flat in a dry spot, away from moisture.
