At 1.4 inches wide it sits as a single confident band across the wrist, weighty in presence but open at the back so it flexes on. Light picks up the dimpled upper register and stops flat against the painted blue, so the two halves almost read as separate materials meeting on one line.

Each cuff is individually hammered and hand-painted, so the hammer patterning and the placement of the indigo line vary slightly from one piece to the next.

The Story

Hammered brass has a long working life in India, where metalsmiths shape sheet metal into cuffs and bangles with hand tools rather than casting or machine stamping. The dimpled surface here is the direct record of that — a hammer and punch worked across the brass by hand, each strike a discrete mark, which is why the texture reads irregular rather than uniform.

The scalloped, beaded rim along both edges is a finishing move: a way to give an otherwise plain-cut edge some visual rhythm and a more considered line. Small detail, but it is where a lot of the hand-finishing time actually goes.

The indigo band is the contemporary layer — cold enamel paint applied by hand to the lower register, creating a clean two-tone split rather than an all-over pattern. A modern design decision built on top of an old metalworking base.

The back is open, so the gap can be gently adjusted to fit most wrist sizes.

Is it solid brass or plated?

Can I wear it in water?

Best to keep it dry. Water and harsh cleaners can dull the finish and affect the painted band over time.

Will the indigo paint chip or wear off?
