The Story

The butterfly is a recurring motif in hill-tribe silverwork, where wings, leaves and vines are built not by casting but by direct hand-stamping on the sheet metal itself. The pattern here is composed one strike at a time — small steel punches tapping in the eye marks, the vein lines and the trailing rose motif across each wing.

The silhouette is cut from a sheet of hill-tribe silver, then the surface is worked stroke by stroke. The wire antennae are shaped separately, tipped with tiny soldered beads, and joined at the body. Once complete, the piece is oxidized so the stamped grooves darken, then polished back on the raised surface so the pattern reads clearly against the antiqued ground.
