Each pair is hand-engraved and hand-finished, so slight variations in texture, shape or size from one pair to the next are part of the process.

The leaf shape is the betel leaf — the heart-form leaf of the Piper betel vine, native across South and Southeast Asia. Rendered flat and engraved, its natural silhouette reads at once as plant and as symbol of affection.

Hilltribe silver runs higher in purity than standard sterling — 95–99% silver against sterling's 92.5% — and takes hand-work well. The radiating veins are scored one line at a time with a steel point, and the dotted border is raised by a small punch tapped along the edge, rather than stamped or cast in a single pass.

The finished sheet is darkened in an oxidizing solution so the recessed lines hold shadow, then the raised surface is burnished back to bright silver — the contrast that gives the antiqued finish its depth. A French hook is soldered on last.
