Horn is a natural material and each disc is polished by hand, so color, grain and small surface irregularities vary from pair to pair.

The Story

The disc is cut and polished from cattle horn — a byproduct material with a long history in East African jewelry, worked as an alternative to plastic or imported shell. Each disc is cleaned, cut and sanded to bring out its natural striations of honey, cream and taupe.

The brass bar and the small arched cradle are shaped by hand from sheet and wire in small Kenyan workshops. Hammering both textures and work-hardens the metal, leaving faint faceted surfaces along the bar and the curve.

The two elements are joined by hand at the jump ring. Because each disc is polished separately and each bar is hammered individually, no two pairs come out the same.
