The Story

Ankole cattle are raised across East Africa for their long, dramatic horns. When an animal is processed for meat and hide, Kenyan workshops repurpose the horn — cutting it into buttons, combs and jewelry components rather than letting it go to waste.

Cutting the horn into a flat disc and polishing it to a glassy sheen is a contemporary move on that old material. The horn's natural marbling — the pooling and striation that runs through it as it grows — becomes the design, standing in for the inlay or stone another piece might use.

Paired with brass, a metal with a long working history in East African jewelry, the vertical bar through the disc reads as both a structural spine and a visual signature, tying the pendant back to the collar itself.
