The Story

Bone beadwork in Indian workshops uses offcut bone from the food industry — shaped, rounded and polished into beads rather than discarded. Stringing multiple graduated strands into a single collar is a common way to add scale and presence without leaning on heavier materials like metal.

Horn follows the same logic of material economy. It is dense enough to carve into a functional hook-and-loop toggle that can bear the weight of five strands, and its dark tone sets off the pale bone by contrast.

Each bead is cut, rounded and smoothed by hand or on a simple lathe, then polished to bring out the cream-to-tan variation in the surface. The horn closure is carved and sanded separately until the hook and loop fit cleanly, and the finished beads are hand-strung and knotted off at the clasp.
