Seven graduated discs build a bib across the neckline, each surface a mottled wash of violet and turquoise pooling over warm gold. The scale steps up toward a larger disc at the center, anchoring the arc.

The patina reacts to brass differently every time, so shading and coverage vary from one necklace to the next.

The Story

The workshop is in northern India, where brass has long been a working metal for hand jewelry — affordable, workable by hand, and receptive to color and texture in ways precious metals resist.

The graduated-disc silhouette is a construction method rather than a fixed motif. Each ring in the chain is hammered and joined by hand; each disc is cut from sheet brass and worked with a hammer before it goes to the patina bath.

The patina itself is a chemical finish that reacts with the metal. No two surfaces oxidize identically, which is why every disc reads differently and every necklace comes out a little different.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-forged brass with patina finishing

Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from water and perfume to preserve the patina.

Questions

Is this necklace hypoallergenic?

The brass is lead- and nickel-free. As with any metal, sensitive skin may react to prolonged contact with moisture or perfume.

Will my necklace look exactly like the picture?

Close, but not identical. The patina shading and coverage across the discs vary from piece to piece.

How long is the necklace and is it adjustable?

It adjusts up to about 31 in, so you can wear it at different lengths along the linked-ring chain.

How do I keep the patina looking good?

Wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and keep it away from water, lotion and perfume, which can dull the finish over time.

Who makes this necklace?

Metal smiths in northern India, using traditional brass-forging and patina techniques.
