Two long black spikes taper to a fine point, each one collared in a bright band of brass that catches the light against the dark surface. The silhouette is spare and graphic — a single clean line hung from a slim gold-tone hook.

  • Material: Hand-carved horn, brass cap, brass ear wire
  • Color: Black and brass
  • Drop: 2.5 in plus hook
  • Width: 0.375 in at widest
  • Closure: Fish hook
  • Sold as: Pair
  • Origin: Kenya

The horn is hollow-light by nature, so the length reads long on the ear without the weight. Wear them with an open collar or pulled-back hair — the drop is designed to be seen end to end, and the brass reads best against warm metals rather than competing silvers.

Details
  • Hand-shaped horn spike
  • Fitted brass collar
  • Lightweight construction
  • Polished finish
  • Each pair unique

Each spike is shaped, sanded and polished by hand, so the curve, grain and finish vary subtly from pair to pair.

The Story

Horn is a working material in Kenya, cut down from livestock and reshaped into tools, containers and adornment. Under polishing it moves from matte to a deep glossy black, and the grain reads differently in every piece.

The spike here is pared down to a single tapered line, sanded through successive grits until the tool marks are gone. A brass sheet is cut, formed into a collar, and fitted snugly over the wide end before the ear wire is set — the joinery between metal and horn is both structural and the visual anchor of the piece.

It is a common East African metalworking move: bright brass used sparingly, at the point of joinery, so the contrast carries the design rather than heavy ornamentation.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Hand-carved horn with brass work

Wipe the horn and brass with a dry, soft cloth. Keep away from water, lotions and prolonged humidity.

Questions

Are these earrings heavy to wear?

No. Horn is hollow-light by nature and the construction is kept slim, so the long drop wears comfortably on the ear.

What metal is used for the cap and ear wire?

Brass, fitted as a snug collar over the horn and finished to a soft sheen that warms slightly with wear.

How should I clean and store these earrings?

Wipe with a dry, soft cloth and store away from water, lotions and humid conditions, which can dull the horn's finish over time.
