A zigzag cascade of fabric-wrapped beads steps down each ear in berry, teal, olive, mustard and crimson. The colors never repeat in the same order, so one side always catches the light differently than the other.

  • Material: Recycled Kantha textiles, alloy
  • Color: Multicolor
  • Length: 3 in plus hook
  • Closure: Fish hook
  • Origin: India

Length without weight — the beads are wound cotton over a light core, so the whole cascade sways with the ear. They read best against a plain neckline, where the color mix can carry the outfit on its own.

Each bead is hand-wrapped from repurposed sari fabric, so color placement, texture and exact shading vary slightly from pair to pair.

The Story

Kantha is a running-stitch textile tradition from West Bengal and Bangladesh, originally used to layer and mend old saris into new cloth. Here that instinct for reuse takes a different form: instead of stitching lengths of fabric, artisans cut scraps and wind them tightly around small cores to build individual beads.

The color sequence isn't matched to a palette. It comes from whichever saris were on hand, which is why the hues jump from maroon to olive to teal along the same strand — an outcome of the recycling, not a design flourish added afterward.

Stringing the beads into a stepped, cascading line is a contemporary use for the reclaimed fabric, giving it movement and presence as jewelry rather than as embroidery or household textile.

Craft & Care

Keep dry and store separately from other jewelry. Avoid direct contact with water, perfume and lotion.

Questions

Are these earrings heavy?

No. The beads are fabric wound over a lightweight core, so the cascade sits comfortably on the ear despite its length.

What are the beads made from?

Small cores wound tightly in scraps of recycled Kantha cotton textile, which gives each bead its fabric texture and color.

Is the metal hypoallergenic?

The hooks and links are gold-tone alloy. If you have sensitive ears, avoid prolonged contact with moisture and perfume.

How should I store them?

Store separately from other jewelry to protect the fabric, and keep them dry and away from perfume or lotion.
