Each bead is individually wrapped from a scrap of recycled sari, so prints, colors and stitching vary from bead to bead and from one necklace to the next.

The Story

Kantha is a running-stitch textile technique from Bengal, where worn cotton saris are layered and hand-stitched into quilts, wraps and covers. Old fabric gets a second life through the repetition of one small stitch, done by hand across a whole sheet.

This necklace works with the same logic at bead scale. Each bead is cut from a section of recycled sari cotton, wrapped over a lightweight core and secured with the same tight running stitch — chosen by color and print, so no two land next to each other quite the same way.

The strand beads are wrapped and rounded uniformly. The front cluster is left as gathered disc rosettes so the fabric's folds and prints stay visible — small quilt blocks turned three-dimensional.
