The bone crescent and wood circle are natural materials shaped and finished by hand, so grain, color and texture vary slightly from piece to piece.

Mixed-material adornment — metal set against bone and wood — runs through Kenyan workshop jewelry, where brass is used for its warmth and workability and local bone and wood provide contrast in color and texture. The disc-and-crescent format belongs to a broader East African visual language of circles, half-moons and spirals combined into layered forms.

The coiled brass wire on the crescent is a signature technique: wire wound by hand into tight, even spirals and set into the piece rather than added on. It catches light differently than the hammered disc above it — sharper, more directional, against the matte bone.

Each earring is assembled from three separate elements. The brass disc is hammered to raise its dimpled texture, a length of wire is wound onto the shaped bone crescent, and a wood round is cut and smoothed to match. The three tiers are then linked by hand, which is why the hammering pattern and spiral tension belong only to the pair they arrive on.
