Paper-Fold Collar Necklace

Each plate is folded by hand, so the angle of the creases and the depth of the oxidized shading vary slightly from one necklace to the next.

The design abstracts something soft — a curl of paper — into something rigid and permanent. Each plate is folded like an absent-minded crease at a desk, then fixed in metal, so the necklace reads as both playful and architectural.

It is made in Türkiye, where metalsmithing centers have trained generations of jewelers in cutting, forming and finishing sheet metal by hand. This is contemporary sculptural work built on that base of skill, not a folk or ceremonial form.

The darkened lines in each fold come from an oxidizing treatment worked into the recesses and polished back off the raised surfaces — a common metalsmithing technique for pulling depth out of a flat design.

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. Store flat or hanging so the folded edges hold their shape, and keep it away from water, lotion and perfume.
