Because each pair is strung and knotted by hand, bead spacing and fringe length vary slightly from pair to pair.

The structure follows a beading logic common to Guatemalan workshops: a dense woven column anchors the ear, then narrows into separate hanging strands so the piece reads solid up top and fluid below. That contrast between structure and movement is the whole design idea, built from the size and color sequence of the beads rather than any added charm.

The banding — black, then gold, then a break of gray and white, then gold again, then loose black tails — is worked one row at a time, so each transition marks a deliberate change in the pattern rather than a printed or dyed effect. The beads themselves are Czech and Japanese Miyuki glass, so the specificity here lives in the technique, not in a regional motif.

A pair starts with rows strung and woven tightly enough to hold as a column, then loosened into individual strands for the fringe, each one knotted off by hand so the tension and length match its neighbors. The finished pair is checked for even banding and consistent drape before the hook is attached.
