The Story

The technique is standard in Turkish metalworking ateliers: small flat discs are stamped with a tight spiral, then soldered in graduated rows onto a chain frame to build a bib-like Y-shape. In Anatolian jewelry the spiral appears often as a way to catch light and add texture to a flat disc without stones.

The oxidized finish sunk into the recesses of each spiral is a deliberate step, not tarnish. The metal is darkened, then polished back on the raised surfaces, so the pattern reads clearly at a distance — dark grooves against a bright ground.

Assembly is joint by joint. Dozens of individually finished tabs are soldered onto a wire frame, working outward from the center so the rows step down evenly and the disc sizes graduate along the drop. One weak solder point throws off the whole line, which is why pieces like this are still built by hand rather than cast in one piece.
