Silver Crescent Hoop Earrings with Stamped Floral Border

Each pair is hand-stamped one strike at a time, so etching depth, spacing, and patina shift slightly from one pair to the next.

The stamped border is built one strike at a time. A silversmith works around the curve with a small steel punch and hammer, pressing each blossom and dot into flat silver stock until the pattern closes on itself. Because it is done by eye, depth and spacing shift subtly from one hoop to the next.

The darkened recesses are a second step. The finished hoop is oxidized so the etched pattern turns black, then buffed back so the raised silver brightens again — the contrast is what makes the border legible at a distance.

This punch-and-hammer vocabulary belongs to silversmiths in northern Thailand, where the blossom-and-dot sequence is one of the region's older decorative motifs and the technique is learned inside workshops rather than schools.
