An open lotus in matte gold caps three strands of beadwork, each ending in a long carnelian drop in deep, translucent orange-red. Blue sodalite and pale-green aventurine punctuate the middle of each strand, holding the piece to a small, deliberate palette.

  • Material: Pewter with gold finish, carnelian, sodalite, aventurine
  • Stones: Carnelian, sodalite, aventurine
  • Length: 1.5 in
  • Closure: French hook
  • Origin: USA

At 1.5 inches, the fringe swings without pulling the ear. The three strands catch light independently, so the composition shifts as you move. Wears best against a pulled-back silhouette and a plain neckline, where the color order and the movement can register cleanly.

Details
  • Cast lotus-flower cap
  • Three-strand beaded fringe
  • Gold-finish pewter beading
  • French hook ear wires

Carnelian, sodalite and aventurine are natural stones, so color and veining shift from bead to bead. No two pairs are identical.

The Story

The cap on each earring is shaped as an open lotus, a motif with deep roots in ancient Egyptian art. The flower appears throughout Egyptian temple carvings and jewelry — the daily rhythm of opening at sunrise and closing at dusk made it a recurring form in the visual language of the period.

This piece takes that shape as a design starting point rather than reproducing a specific artifact. The cap is cast in pewter and finished in matte gold, then paired with a contemporary beaded fringe.

Each cap is pierced with three small jump rings that take the strands. The carnelian, sodalite and aventurine beads are cut and polished separately, then hand-strung in alternating sequence with small gold-finish spacer beads before each strand is looped onto the cap and closed with a French hook.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Cast pewter, hand-strung beadwork

Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Store flat, away from moisture and perfume, to protect the gold finish.

Questions

Are these earrings hypoallergenic?

The ear wires are gold-finished pewter rather than surgical steel, so anyone with a sensitivity to base metals may want to test their own tolerance before extended wear.

How long do the earrings hang?

Approximately 1.5 inches from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the longest strand.

Will the gold finish wear off?

The finish holds up well with normal wear if you keep the earrings away from water, perfume and lotion, and store them separately from other jewelry to prevent scratching.

Is each pair exactly the same?

The lotus caps are cast from the same mold, but because the carnelian, sodalite and aventurine beads are natural stone, their color and pattern vary slightly from pair to pair.

What kind of ear wire do they use?

A simple French hook, which slips through a standard pierced ear without any additional clasp.
