The Story

The composition avoids a traditional motif entirely. Dots, stripes, waves and solid blocks sit together at different scales, offset along the cord so the eye moves across the piece the way it would across an abstract painting.

The beads come from small workshops in the Philippines, where resin is hand-shaped, colored and finished rather than injection-molded. The slightly irregular disc edges and painted-on patterns are what that process looks like on the finished piece.

Each disc is shaped, patterned by hand, sanded, polished, then strung and knotted onto the black cord with a slide closure — a sequence of small hand tasks that leaves the necklace with its texture and light variation from one piece to the next.
