The disc stack curves like an anchor at the collarbone, giving the piece structure while the graduated beads carry movement above it. At 32 inches it sits long over a tunic or plain dress, leaving the neckline clear so the composition reads as one continuous arc.

The Story

The bone beads are hand-carved and sourced from Africa, where bone carving is a practical, skilled craft — beads shaped and smoothed from bone that would otherwise go to waste, each one carrying small marks from the hand that cut it.

The recycled glass beads are reformed from crushed or reclaimed glass and given a matte, sea-glass finish rather than a polished shine, so they read tactile rather than glossy. The coconut wood and black wood sections are cut into discs and rounds, then sanded smooth.

Four materials, arranged in deliberate blocks rather than mixed at random. A finisher grades the beads by size and tone, strings the graduated sequence by hand, and sets the hammered brass toggle — assembly close enough that the exact placement of beads won't repeat on the next piece off the table.
