A cluster of coiled disks overlaps across the collarbone, alternating solid black, natural cream, and pinwheels that pull the two together. The scale shifts from small medallions to larger rounds, so the composition never settles into symmetry.

  • Material: Iraca palm fiber and faux leather cord
  • Color: Black and cream
  • Length: Adjusts up to 36 in
  • Closure: Two-strand faux leather cord, adjustable
  • Origin: Colombia
  • Disk diameter: 1.5–2 in

The piece reads full and sculptural against the chest, yet the fiber keeps it light on the neck. Set it against a plain top and let the weave do the work — the play of solid disks and radiating spokes shifts with every angle.

Details
  • Hand-coiled fiber disks
  • Two-strand adjustable faux leather cord
  • Mixed black and cream color-blocking
  • Lightweight natural-fiber construction

Each disk is hand-coiled from natural plant fiber, so slight variations in size, shape, and color pattern are part of the piece rather than a flaw.

The Story

Iraca is a Colombian palm. Its fronds are stripped into fine fiber and dried before weaving — the same base material behind the country's woven hats and baskets. Here, that fiber is coiled into flat disks instead of brims or vessels.

Each disk starts at a center point. The weaver winds fiber outward in a spiral, stitching each pass to the one before and flattening the coil as it grows. Some disks stay in the natural cream tone; others are worked in fiber dyed black, so the pattern is set as the disk is built, not painted on after.

Once enough disks are finished across a range of sizes, the artisan arranges and stitches them into a layered cluster, then attaches the cluster to the cord.

Questions

How long is the necklace, and is it adjustable?

Yes — the two-strand faux leather cord adjusts to an overall length of up to 36 in, so you can wear it higher or lower.

What is it made of?

The disks are hand-woven from iraca palm fiber, a natural renewable plant material. The adjustable cord is faux leather.

Will the size and pattern match the photo exactly?

Not exactly. Each disk is coiled by hand, so disk size, placement, and the mix of black and cream vary slightly from piece to piece.

Is it heavy to wear?

No — iraca fiber is light, so despite the bold layered look the necklace wears easily on the neck.

How do I take care of it?

Keep it dry, wipe with a dry cloth, and store it flat rather than balled up or hung on a hook.
