Golden grass is a natural, plant-based material. Slight variations in color and texture from piece to piece are part of it.

Capim Dourado — golden grass — is a fine reed-like plant that grows in the Cerrado grasslands of Jalapão, in Brazil's Tocantins state. Its stems take on a naturally golden, almost metallic sheen once harvested and dried, which is where the warm color comes from. No dye.

The weaving began with the region's indigenous communities and was later developed further by Afro-Brazilian artisans, who built it into a defining local craft. Harvesting happens by hand within a brief seasonal window each year, a rhythm that has shaped both the pace and the value of the work.

The coiled hoop and spiral medallions here reflect the shape the grass takes most naturally when wound tightly around itself. Artisans sort and dry the strands by color and thickness, then wind each one around a core reinforced with fine gold-tone wire, coiling by hand into the hoop and discs. The medallions are linked with jump rings and finished with a braided cord — a slow, hand-fed process where the coil loses its shape if it is rushed.
