The Story

The technique is seed-bead weaving worked on a single needle rather than a loom — each row built stitch by stitch, the color change for the white band worked in by eye. The triangular silhouette and horizontal stripe reference the geometric layouts used in Guatemalan textiles, where blocks of solid color are set off by narrow contrasting bands rather than pictorial designs.

The mustard gold sits in the same palette that runs through Guatemalan huipiles alongside deep reds and blues — a saturated warm tone, rendered here in glass beads instead of thread.

The fringe is a practical extension of the weave. Rows of tight beadwork give way to loose hanging strands, so a flat woven form gains visible motion when worn. Small irregularities in bead spacing and fringe length are the visible trace of hand construction, not a flaw to correct.
