The Story

Kantha is a running-stitch textile tradition from the Bengal region of India and Bangladesh, historically used to layer worn cotton saris and dhotis into new quilts and wraps. Here the technique moves in miniature: strips of Kantha cloth are wound tightly around small wood beads and secured so each bead holds its shape and color.

No two beads pull from the same scrap of fabric, so no two read alike. That variation is the visible record of the technique — it is what makes the strands read as densely patterned rather than uniform.

Pairing the textile beads with mixed gemstones — tiger's eye, green onyx, hematite, sodalite, carnelian and howlite — is a common approach in Indian beadwork, where cloth, stone and metal combine freely to build color and texture into a single layered piece.

It arrived broken and strands in the wrong order to hang correctly. I took it to a jewelry store and they fixed both issues.
