AK-N56-RED

Four strands of fabric-wrapped beads graduate toward a single oversized focal bead at the center front, the palette shifting through crimson, wine and berry with small cream and black prints surfacing through the wraps.

  • Material: Recycled sari textile over bead cores; brass chain and findings
  • Color: Crimson, berry, wine
  • Length: 18 in plus 3 in extender
  • Closure: Brass clasp
  • Origin: India

The graduated tiering builds real presence at the collarbone without the weight of a solid piece, and the fabric surface stays soft against the skin. Wear it as the one thing in an outfit, over a plain black or white top that lets the color do the work.

Details
  • Four graduated strands
  • Hand-wrapped kantha beads
  • No two beads alike
  • Large focal bead at center front
  • Brass clasp with 3 in extender

Each bead is wrapped from a different scrap of reclaimed sari cloth, so the color and print on your necklace will vary bead by bead and piece by piece from the one pictured.

The Story

Kantha is a running-stitch textile tradition from Bengal, historically used to layer worn saris into new cloth rather than discard them. Here that reuse instinct is applied not to stitched quilts but to bead wrapping — individual scraps of recycled sari fabric drawn tight around lightweight cores until the cloth becomes the entire surface of the necklace.

Because each bead begins as a different offcut, the palette is not printed to match. Whatever crimson, berry, rose, cream or gold fabric was on hand becomes the color story, shifting bead by bead and strand by strand — a full floral print landing on one bead, only a sliver of thread on the next.

The four-strand graduation is a practical choice built to show off the fabric: small beads at the nape keep the strands close to the neck, and the scale builds toward the oversized focal bead at the center front.
