The Story

The construction is a longstanding pairing in East African metalwork: a dense natural material set into a hammered brass collar. Horn takes a high polish and holds a fine, tapered shape; brass is soft enough to be worked smooth around the narrow end, protecting the point where the drop meets the wire.

The elongated shape and pull-through wire are built for movement and line — an earring meant to hang and catch light along its length rather than sit against the lobe. Character comes from the contrast between polished black horn and warm brass, and from the fact that each drop is cut and turned by hand.

Wipe the horn and brass with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from water and lotions, which can dull the polish and the brass finish.

What is the horn material?

The drops are carved from natural black horn, hand-turned and polished. Slight variation in grain and sheen between earrings is expected.

How do threader earrings go in?

The long wire slips through the piercing and hangs freely rather than closing with a clasp or post back, so the horn drop settles at the length of the wire.

Will the brass tarnish over time?

The antique brass will deepen and pick up a soft patina with wear. A dry cloth wipe keeps the surface even without stripping that character.
