The Story

The beads are built from recycled cotton and sari fabric — the same reclaimed textiles used in kantha work, a stitching tradition from West Bengal and Bangladesh in which women layer worn saris and dhotis and bind them with running stitches into something new. Here the same instinct for reuse takes a different form: scraps are rolled tight and wrapped into round beads instead of stitched flat.

The black, white, and gray palette lets the different fabrics read as one considered material, with flecks of pattern in the wrapped cloth hinting at the sari prints the scraps came from. Layering five strands follows how these textile beads are worn in Indian and Bangladeshi jewelry markets, where volume and repetition build the piece rather than a single focal pendant.

Brass spacers break up the fabric beads at intervals — a small metalworking touch common to workshops where textile and metal crafts sit side by side, giving a soft material some structure and shine.
