Six frosted glass nuggets swim across the front, blue clouding into green, their surfaces still soft from the firing. Around them, faceted wood, chalky white stone and small brass discs step up in size toward the center.

  • Material: Recycled glass, wood, stone, brass, leather
  • Color: Blue, green, cream, warm wood, brass
  • Length: About 29 in
  • Closure: Brass hook and eye
  • Origin: USA
  • Cord: Leather

The beads graduate from small at the nape to the heaviest glass at the throat, so the composition settles low and reads as one continuous arc. The leather cord keeps the weight soft against the collarbone. Best against something plain — a white shirt, a linen dress — where the color can do the work.

Details
  • Graduated recycled glass front beads
  • Mixed-media wood, stone and brass beadwork
  • Hand-strung on leather cord
  • Hand-forged brass hook-and-eye clasp
  • Handmade with natural bead-to-bead variation

Each necklace is hand-strung from recycled glass, wood and stone, so the exact color, shape and size of individual beads will vary slightly from one piece to the next.

The Story

The large front beads are made from recycled glass — bottles, jars and window panes crushed to a coarse powder, packed into molds and fired until the glass slumps and fuses. The technique is what gives each bead its cloudy interior, the trapped air bubbles and the slightly frosted surface. No two come out the same shape.

The rest of the necklace is built the way beadwork traditions have always built a necklace: bead by bead rather than cast as a single piece. Faceted wood, chalky white stone and small brass discs are hand-strung on leather cord, with the sizing graduating from the clasp toward the center front. The brass hook is forged and finished by hand.

Made in the USA, with beads sourced from several regions.

Craft & Care
  • Technique: Recycled glass beadmaking, hand-strung mixed-media beadwork

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth and store flat, away from moisture, perfume and direct sun — all three can dull the glass and dry out the leather cord.

Questions

Is this made from real recycled glass?

Yes. The large blue and green beads are ground recycled glass, packed into molds and fired into shape, so each carries its own small variations in color and texture.

How long is it?

About 29 in.

What are the other beads made of?

Wood, stone and brass, strung on a leather cord with a brass hook-and-eye clasp.

Will mine look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but because the beads are handmade, expect small differences in color, shape and size from piece to piece.

How do I care for it?

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear, and keep it away from moisture and perfume so the glass, wood and leather stay in good condition.
